Psalms 71:3
Be to me a rock of habitation to which I may continually come;
You have given commandment to save me, for You are my rock and my fortress.

With this prayer the psalmist is giving voice to the deep cry of the human soul. For there come times to everyone when the soul needs a strong place of refuge. Self-help fails; human and worldly aid are insufficient. God is the only real hope and help. In almost abject despair and yet in confident trust, the soul casts itself on God, crying out to Him, “Be to me ‘my’ rock of habitation” – my dwelling place, my rock and my fortress – to which I may continually come and hide myself in Your divine strength, safety and security.

When doubts and temptations torment the soul; when cares and anxiety consume the mind; when sickness and loss depress the spirit; when enemies trouble us on every side; when old age with its infirmity’s sneaks in upon us; when poverty threatens; what comfort and strength there is in knowing that there is a rock of habitation; that God has given commandment to save us; that He is our rock and fortress.

Deuteronomy 33:27 NLT
The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you.
