Before we can rightly discuss the goodness of God, we first need to understand the concept of God's goodness. It can be challenging for many to grasp because the true meaning of goodness and why God embodies it might not be clear to us.
Understanding God's goodness involves reflecting on our own selves. While God is flawless and pure, we are flawed and imperfect. It is essential to acknowledge this stark contrast when talking about God's goodness, as our sinful nature would typically separate us from God, yet He extends His grace to us.
If we overlook our sinful nature in this context, we might mistakenly believe that we deserve His blessings. However, we all sin and fall short of God’s glory, we do not live up to God's standards. Despite this, God shows us patience and refrains from punishing us as our actions warrant. His goodness shines through in His continuous display of love, grace, mercy, kindness, and compassion, even when we are undeserving. This unwavering demonstration of love from a perfect God toward imperfect individuals underscores the essence of God's goodness.
Psalms 145:5-9 NASB95
5 On the glorious splendor of Your majesty and on Your wonderful works, I will meditate. 6 Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts, and I will tell of Your greatness. 7 They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness and will shout joyfully of Your righteousness. 8 The Lord is gracious and merciful; Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness. 9 The Lord is good to all, and His mercies are over all His works.
